Never Giving up on Democracy
The Boston community has been active since January 2023, alongside our sisters and brothers in Israel, non-violently opposing the regime coup instigated by the current Israeli government. We continue to raise awareness of the cause, in multiple avenues.
"BOSTON 4 DEMOCRACY IN ISRAEL" is co-sponsoring events to promote democracy in Israel with local congregations during Sukkot. Everyone is invited.
Join Boston for Democracy in Israel and the members of Temple Beth Elohim, 10 Bethel Rd., Wellesley, in support for democracy in Israel, Friday, September 29, 6pm. Nadav Tamir, Director of Jstreet Israel and former consul general to New England, will speak during services, followed by a conversation with artist Memy Ish Shalom, creator of the installation “Never Giving up on Democracy, which will be unveiled.
Created by Newton sculptor Memy Ish-Shalom, Never Giving up on Democracy, is an artistic response to the persistent, nonviolent, mass protests across Israel against the far-right government’s attempted authoritarian power grab. Hundreds of thousands Israeli citizens, men and women, young and old, secular and religious, left-wing and right-wing voters, Jews and Arabs, straight and LGBTQ, have been protesting every single week since January 2023. Many have put their lives “on hold” and are dedicating all their time to save Israel’s democracy from the clear and present danger it faces. Remembering the harsh lessons learned from 20th and 21st century history, the protesters are aware that totalitarian regimes might take hold through a government that was initially elected legitimately but then abuses its power.
Let us show our unequivocal support for Israeli democracy.
